The First Steps to Starting a Business

The Basics of Writing a Business Plan

This course is designed for business owners and managers who need to know how to create a business plan for their organization so the plan can be a useful management tool.

During this course, participants will learn the importance of business plans, the key required elements of a basic plan and data that must be included. Full of tips on writing style and professional appearance, this session will end with a greater understanding of what a business plan should look like and how to get started writing one.

Winning Government Contracts: The First Steps

This three hour seminar is an overview of the critical first steps associated with winning government contracts. The Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Center (MO PTAC) hosts this seminar on how to get started in the government contracting arena including federal, state and local government registrations and certifications. The seminar will also cover MO PTAC services available to assist Missouri businesses in all aspects of government contracting.

Winning Federal Research Grants: SBIR/STTR Workshop

An introductory look at how to win Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Research grants. Learn how to find, apply, and create a strategies to gain funding for a growing technology business. The highly competitive SBIR program encourages domestic small businesses to engage in federal research and research development (R&D) that has the potential for commercialization. SBIR enables small businesses to explore technological potential and provides the incentive to profit from its commercialization. Kansas City area companies have successfully funded their research with SBIR/STTR grants that can total up to $1.5 million for each business. Learn how your business could qualify.  Lunch is included for in-person attendees. The course is available to those outside our area through distance learning options.

Designed specifically by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, this program is an intensive eight-session course designed to give technology and science based entrepreneurs a proven framework and network of connections to help grow a great idea into the next viable innovation.

Experienced business coaches and successful entrepreneurs work together to facilitate critical teachings, guide lively small group sessions, and share practical experiences to enhance your business. Participants learn with and from their peers, creating a powerful network that continues well after the program is complete.

Entrepreneurial Mindset Training

This class has nine sessions on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 8:30;  Attendance at all nine sessions is HIGHLY encouraged.

Have a business idea but don’t know where to start? Do you want to learn how to be an entrepreneur?

The Entrepreneurial Mindset Training combines classroom and online coursework to teach 8 essentials of an entrepreneurial mindset using the business canvass process to inspire and engage participants. Hearing from unlikely yet successful entrepreneurs, participants will learn to evaluate business opportunities from a practical method inspired by the life story of Clifton Taulbert.

This course is a revolutionary new learning program designed to inspire and engage participants in the fundamental aspects of an entrepreneurial mindset and the unlimited opportunities it can provide. The overall objective is to empower learners through entrepreneurial thinking and immerse them in entrepreneurial experiences that will enable them to develop entrepreneurial skills. With market testing, you will also be using a canvas tool to test assumptions rather than utilizing traditional business planning.

Growth360 is a selective opportunity for business owners to participate in a minimum of 9 sessions of class on Fridays from 9am – Noon beginning on September 20. An agreement to full participation is part of the application process. Cohort members will be chosen and notified prior to start.

With a 360° perspective, businesses can avoid blind spots and make smarter decisions. 

This workshop introduces the GrowthWheel® Framework and participants take home tools, Decision Sheets and 30-60-90 Day Plans.
