The Basics of Writing a Business Plan

This course is designed for business owners and managers who need to know how to create a business plan for their organization so the plan can be a useful management tool.

During this course, participants will learn the importance of business plans, the key required elements of a basic plan and data that must be included. Full of tips on writing style and professional appearance, this session will end with a greater understanding of what a business plan should look like and how to get started writing one.

The dates for classes in this session are July 23, 30, August 6, 13 and 20.  Attendance at all five classes (in person or through distance learning) is highly encouraged.

This program helps aspiring entrepreneurs look at all aspects of their business idea, exploring the feasibility of their new venture and learning how to develop a viable business. This business creation program is fast-paced, interactive, fun and energizing.

The Missouri Small Business Development Center at UMKC ELEVATIONLAB™ offers the program in an accelerated time frame to let potential entrepreneurs get started with their businesses as soon as possible. Guest speakers and entrepreneurs bring their real-world experience to make topics come alive.

Participants develop their businesses through the group activities and coaching from professional business counselors. The class materials include FastTrac, GrowthWheel® and other elements with step-by-step activities and in-depth information. You don’t just learn about business, you work on your own business venture throughout the program.

Winning Federal Research Grants: SBIR/STTR Workshop

An introductory look at how to win Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Research grants. Learn how to find, apply, and create a strategies to gain funding for a growing technology business. The highly competitive SBIR program encourages domestic small businesses to engage in federal research and research development (R&D) that has the potential for commercialization. SBIR enables small businesses to explore technological potential and provides the incentive to profit from its commercialization. Kansas City area companies have successfully funded their research with SBIR/STTR grants that can total up to $1.5 million for each business.
