Applicants must be recently unemployed or laid off from a job. The First Steps to Starting a Business and Basics of Writing a Business Plan classes are required before other classes can be taken. If eligible, these courses are offered at no charge.


The First Steps to Starting a Business

This three-hour offering will provide you with an overview of the critical first steps associated with starting a business in Missouri.

The Basics of Writing a Business Plan

This three-hour offering is for current and future business owners and entrepreneurs who have little or no knowledge of writing a business plan.


In this 30-hour course, you will look at all aspects of your proposed company, exploring the feasibility of your business concept and learning how to develop a viable business plan. Participants will learn about start-up issues and learn to address the competition, legal matters, marketing and financial management aspects. This offering is now available for dislocated workers state-wide.


Building professionals can create a business growth strategy designed specifically for their industry in this class. Using their current operations framework, business owners will actively work to develop a plan that significantly improves business performance.


Designed specifically by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, this program is an intensive eight-session course designed to give technology and science based entrepreneurs a proven framework and network of connections to help grow a great idea into the next viable innovation.

Entrepreneurial Mindset Training

This course is a revolutionary new learning program designed to inspire and engage participants in the fundamental aspects of an entrepreneurial mindset and the unlimited opportunities it can provide.

Reading and Understanding Financial Statement – It’s all about the Benjamins!

During this course, you will learn to identify key business information that is captured on the income statement and balance sheet. You will learn to calculate several ratios and understand what those ratios mean in terms of business productivity and success.

Social Media Road Map for Business

This three-hour training will give you social media strategies for business-to-business and business-to-customer communication. Learn how your website should be working to help facilitate the growth of your business, and how to get targeted clients, prospects and industry media to share your message.


In order to attend any of the above courses, participants must attend both The First Steps to Starting a Business and The Basics of Writing a Business Plan before they are eligible to enroll in additional coursework.
