Basics of Writing a Business Plan

Start your business planning, or ramp up your game plan, with this three-hour class on Basics of Writing a Business Plan. Designed for current and aspiring business owners, this class is perfect for entrepreneurs who need to create a business plan, but have little or no knowledge of how to get started. Learn the key elements of a basic plan and how it can be a useful management tool.

Participants will get tips and guidelines on writing styles and formats that produce polished, professional plans. Business counselors will facilitate class discussions to help participants consider individual situations, opportunities and additional valuable resources.

Successful businesses know how to find the right product-market fit that creates this customer value and how to communicate it to their market.

This intensive course will use the Business Model Canvas, the Value Proposition Canvas, and other proven processes to identify and articulate customer value for your new business offering, whether it’s technology-based, a new product or new service. You will research your market, refine your customer segments, conduct customer discovery and use your canvas to create a compelling value proposition to drive growth. The program is taught by experienced SBTDC business coaches certified by Strategyzer and Steve Blank, in Business Model Canvas and Lean Startup.

ELEVATIONLAB™ CONSTRUCTION VENTURE

 

Building professionals can create a business growth strategy designed specifically for their industry in the Construction Business Management class. Using their current operations framework, business owners will actively work to develop a plan that significantly improves business performance. Facilitators are knowledgeable entrepreneurs who are attuned to the issues that influence the business decisions in the construction industry.

ELEVATIONLAB™ NEW VENTURE

Do you dream of owning your own business? Are you ready for a realistic perspective on whether or not people really want to buy what you want to sell?

This program helps aspiring entrepreneurs look at all aspects of their business idea, exploring the feasibility of their new venture and learning how to develop a viable business. This business creation program is fast-paced, interactive, fun and energizing.

The Small Business & Technology Development Center at UMKC ELEVATIONLAB™ offers the program in an accelerated time frame to let potential entrepreneurs get started with their businesses as soon as possible. Guest speakers and entrepreneurs bring their real-world experience to make topics come alive.

Participants develop their businesses through the group activities and coaching from professional business counselors. The class materials include FastTrac, GrowthWheel® and other elements with step-by-step activities and in-depth information. You don’t just learn about business, you work on your own business venture throughout the program.

Entrepreneurial Mindset Training

Are you an aspiring entrepreneur with a business idea, but don’t know where to start?

This program combines classroom and online course work to teach eight essentials of an entrepreneurial mindset using the business canvas process to inspire and engage participants. Hearing from unlikely, yet successful entrepreneurs, participants will learn to evaluate business opportunities from a practical method inspired by the life story of Clifton Taulbert.

This course is a revolutionary new learning program designed to inspire and engage participants in the fundamental aspects of an entrepreneurial mindset and the unlimited opportunities it can provide. The overall objective is to empower learners through entrepreneurial thinking and immerse them in experiences that will enable them to develop entrepreneurial skills. With market testing, participants will use a canvas tool to test assumptions outside of traditional business planning.

 Financial Projections: Makin’ It Rain?!

Determine your cash “runway” by learning to estimate future cash flow using historical financial performance, if any, plus customer discovery research on likely volume, pricing, expenses, and more.  Participants will learn to use that information to make educated predictions of future sources and uses of cash and analyze those predictions to make more informed decisions.  Participants will leave this session feeling more comfortable about choices related to preparing for growth, realistic loan and financing requests, how much cash they can safely take out of the business, and making affordable purchases for the business.
